(St. Paul) – February 2, 2022 – At 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, Minnesota nurses will join Senate Minority Leader Melisa López Franzen (DFL-Edina), Senator Erin Murphy (DFL-St. Paul) and Representative Liz Olson (DFL-Duluth) to announce new legislation to address the hospital short-staffing and retention crisis.

In recent weeks, hundreds of nurses spoke out about the conditions in Minnesota hospitals. Minnesota nurses are overwhelmed and overworked, hospitals are understaffed, and patients are overcharged by hospital executives trying to boost their bottom lines. These conditions, created by hospital CEOs, are driving nurses away from the profession and hurting patient care.

Now, nurses will join legislators to propose legislation that would put patients and workers before profits to fix the under-staffing crisis, keep nurses at the bedside, and improve the quality-of-care patients receive at Minnesota hospitals.

(St. Paul) – January 19, 2022 – This week, 672 nurse members of the Minnesota Nurses Association filed a petition with hospital management at six Mayo Clinic facilities, demanding action to curtail the worsening staffing crisis and recognize nurses’ sacrifices throughout the pandemic.

Ahead of Legislative Session, nurses come together to demand action

(St. Paul) – January 11, 2022 – On Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at 10 a.m., nurse members of the Minnesota Nurses Association will host a tele-town hall with members of the Minnesota Legislature to demand action on the crisis of nursing in Minnesota hospitals.

(St. Paul) – December 28, 2021 – Minnesota Nurses Association President Mary C. Turner, RN, today released the following statement in response to new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines which slash recommended isolation periods and do not require a negative test to end isolation. The new guidelines also no longer require health care workers who are exposed to COVID-19 to quarantine if they are vaccinated and boosted. These new policies come as COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Minnesota and nationwide, including infections from the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

(St. Paul) – November 10, 2021 – MNA President Mary C. Turner, RN, one of twelve members of the Biden-Harris COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force, today praised the group’s final recommendations and report.

“As an ICU nurse on a Covid unit since the start of the pandemic, I am thrilled that the task force is calling for a permanent OSHA Covid-19 standard that includes protections against aerosol and airborne transmission for nurses and other workers,” said Turner, the only frontline worker and registered nurse appointed to the task force.
