15,000 nurses at 16 hospitals in the Twin Cities, Twin Ports, and Two Harbors voted yesterday to authorize an unfair labor practice strike

As many hospital CEOs continue to take multi-million-dollar salaries, executives continue to commit unfair labor practices and refuse solutions to address care and working conditions for nurses and patients

(St. Paul and Duluth) – December 1, 2022 – This morning, nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association announced that 15,000 nurses throughout the state plan to begin an unfair labor practice strike at 16 hospitals beginning December 11, 2022, as they fight for fair contracts to put patients before profits and to solve the crisis of care and working conditions in our hospitals.

Nurses have been back at work for two months since historic three-day strike, but hospital executives continue to commit unfair labor practices and refuse solutions to address care and working conditions at the bargaining table

(St. Paul) – November 17, 2022 – Nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) today announced that they will hold a vote on November 30, 2022 to authorize a potential second unfair labor practice strike in their fight to win fair contracts to put patients before profits.

Hospital executives threaten to lockout, fire nurses fighting to put patients before profits  

Today, 15,000 nurses in the Twin Cities, Twin Ports, and Moose Lake announced their intent to strike on September 12 in their fight for fair contracts that put Patients Before Profits. In response, hospital executives have made a desperate attempt to further attack the collective bargaining rights of Minnesota nurses, demanding an additional step that has not been previously requested or required to attempt to prevent nurses from striking for better patient care and working conditions.

Resolution, offered by Councilmembers Chughtai and Chavez, encourages hospital employers to reach a fair contract to “prioritize patients and frontline healthcare workers, including nurses, over profits”   

(St. Paul) – August 18, 2022 – The Minneapolis City Council today unanimously approved a resolution expressing support for Minnesota Nurses Association members and encouraging hospital employers to reach a fair contract with nurses to “prioritize patients and frontline healthcare workers, including nurses, over profits.”

The resolution, offered by Councilmembers Aisha Chughtai and Jason Chavez, also recognizes that “residents and patients in Minneapolis rely on the critical care services of nurses and other frontline healthcare staff, without whom hospitals cannot function and patients cannot receive adequate care.” The text also affirms that “hospital employers, like other businesses and nonprofits operating in the City of Minneapolis, have a responsibility to prioritize community interest and treat workers with dignity and respect.”

The resolution comes as 15,000 nurses in the Twin Cities and Twin Ports voted earlier this week to authorize a strike in their fight for fair contracts that put patients before profits and solve the crisis of retention and care in Minnesota hospitals.
