Nurses to urge legislation to put patient needs before corporate greed in our hospitals 

(St. Paul) – February 2, 2024 – On Monday, February 5, 2024, nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) will be joined by labor and legislator allies to introduce an agenda for the 2024 legislative session that will work to put patient needs before corporate greed in our hospitals.

After corporate healthcare executives killed legislation last session that would have improved nurse staffing and retention in Minnesota hospitals, nurses will be back at the Capitol this year seeking new protections for nurses and patients at the bedside. Nurses will also call for important new measures to hold hospital CEOs accountable to our patients, our communities, and our state through public transparency and regulation.

Nurses will be joined at the press conference by representatives from the Minnesota AFL-CIO, AFSCME Council 5, AFSCME Council 65, United Steelworkers, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), and the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE). Workers will be joined by state legislators ready to fight for patients and workers at the Capitol this legislative session.

Minnesota nurses urge lawmakers to trust nurses on the need to address corporate greed and patient needs in our hospitals   

(St. Paul) – January 23, 2024 – Nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) celebrated being named the most honest and ethical profession for the 22nd consecutive year. In the Gallup poll, conducted in December 2023, 78 percent of U.S. adults said nurses have “high” or “very high” honesty and ethical standards.

“Nurses greatly value the trust and understanding we share with our patients as we both face the consequences of executives’ corporate greed in our hospitals,” said Chris Rubesch, RN, MNA President.

CEO cuts healthcare benefits for healthcare workers, receives raise amid nurse retention and workplace violence crisis at Hennepin County Medical Center

(St. Paul) – November 26, 2023 – On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, nurses will hold a press conference in the atrium of the Hennepin County Government Center ahead of the County Board of Commissioners meeting regarding the 2024 fiscal budget for Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC). Nurses will announce the results of their vote of “No Confidence” in CEO Jennifer DeCubellis and encourage the County Commissioners to stand with nurses and other healthcare workers at HCMC by working with Hennepin Healthcare to create a budget that retains healthcare workers and keeps workers safe in the hospital.
