(St. Paul) – January 16, 2025 – The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA), representing more than 22,000 nurses across the state, joins the nation’s largest union of registered nurses, National Nurses United (NNU), in celebrating the recognition of nurses as the most honest and ethical profession for the 23rd year in a row, according to the annual Gallup Honesty and Ethics poll.

“Nurses are deeply honored by this recognition from the public, which reaffirms the trust we work so hard to build every day,” said Chris Rubesch, RN, MNA President. “From the hospital bedside to the picket line and the legislative chambers, nurses in Minnesota and across the country fight to put our patients’ needs first—even when that means challenging corporate healthcare systems to deliver safer, more equitable care.”

In the poll 76% of U.S. adults said nurses have “high” or “very high” honesty and ethical standards, far outpacing the 22 other professions measured. Since nurses were first added to the Gallup poll in 1999, they have ranked as the most trusted profession every year except 2001, when firefighters earned the top spot following the 9/11 attacks.

Over 120 years of frontline care and advocacy, MNA members have been at the vanguard of efforts to achieve safer staffing ratios, fair contracts, and stronger patient protections.

“As nurses, trust is the foundation of the care we provide,” added Rubesch. “We’re proud that Minnesotans and Americans alike recognize our commitment to their health and well-being. We will continue to honor that trust by pushing for the protections, policies, and staffing levels that our patients deserve.”
