POSITION TITLE: Events and Member Benefits Specialist

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Operations 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

Works to promote and achieve the goals and priorities of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA). Working with a team to plan and implement the initiatives of MNA in accordance with Association policy. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as staff lead and facilitator for various member committees including Convention Planning, Honors & Awards, State Events Planning, and others as needed.
  2. Negotiate all large event contracts with outside vendors, including but not limited to Annual Convention, Annual Day on the Hill (Student & Member) to be presented to and signed by Director of Operations.
  3. Negotiate and promote Corporate Hotel Contracts and Direct Billing.
  4. Develop schedule and programming related to the annual convention in coordination with member and staff planning groups. Includes coordination with speakers, entertainment, promotional items, and venders.
  5. Create detailed convention schedule incorporating all necessary staff assignment roles to be presented to and approved by Director of Operations.
  6. Develops strong working knowledge of MNA’s House of Delegates process and election/appointments of delegates helping maintain the list of delegates in coordination with Labor Department staff.
  7. Coordinate outreach to other unions and the community during Metro and Duluth Negotiations.
  8. Consistently provide all staff with updates as needed around upcoming organizational events.
  9. Coordinate and support internal staff meetings as needed.
  10. Coordinate events as assigned by Director of Operations.
  11. Create all event-related correspondence, memos, and other communications/projects.
  12. Attend AFL-CIO state fair planning meetings.
  13. Coordinate and support conferences, galas, fundraisers and other events as assigned. Includes advertising; tracking attendance; and handling registrations, hotel reservations, transportation, etc.
  14. Occasionally accompany and provide support to member groups attending outside events.
  15. Coordinate use of MNA Office meeting space with outside groups ensuring appropriate paperwork is completed and being present as MNA contact person for the group during the events.
  16. Coordinate and support existing member benefit programs.
  17. Identify and vet potential new member benefit programs, bringing them to the Board of Directors for approval when necessary.
  18. Develop/maintain templates and toolkits for staff to use on a variety of activities. (picket lines, rallies, townhalls, conference booths, etc.)
  19. Keep the Director of Operations informed of important matters which must be known to effectively manage the overall office support functions in the Association.
  20. Maintains working knowledge of Association issues in order to handle inquiries and referrals to the appropriate staff.

The position may include long and irregular hours, including weekends and evenings.  Travel is required, including overnight stays.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  Equivalent work experience will be considered.

Experience:  Knowledge of labor unions. Required proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including mastery of Excel, Outlook and Access or similar database.  A minimum of 1-2 years of experience planning and coordinating events. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and to diligently input data into database. Highly organized and detail-oriented individual required.

Salary: Salary range begins at $81,390 and will consider experience and qualifications. Step increases per collective bargaining agreement. MNA is an EEO/AA Employer.
