(St. Paul) – February 27, 2025 – Nurses of the Minnesota Nurses Association today announced their endorsement of David Gottfried for the House District 40B special election of the Minnesota House of Representatives. The election will be held on March 11, 2025.
Candidates who receive endorsements are recognized for their commitment to standing with nurses and addressing the pressing challenges facing both healthcare professionals and patients. To secure this support, candidates must demonstrate a clear dedication to improving working conditions for nurses, strengthening patient care, and resisting the increasing corporatization and consolidation of the healthcare system. Additionally, they must advocate for workers’ rights, ensuring that nurses have a collective voice in decisions that impact their profession, workplace conditions, and the quality of care they provide.
Nurses took notice of Gottfried for his strong commitment to collaboration with MNA members, emphasizing his desire for an open, honest, and productive relationship. He assured nurses that his door would always be open, fostering meaningful conversations that drive real change. A union member himself, Gottfried has consistently championed policies that align with nursing priorities, including his firm support for staffing ratios and his stance against the increasing corporatization of healthcare. He has also backed the Minnesota Health Plan and Paid Family & Medical Leave, reinforcing his dedication to fair and equitable healthcare policies. Furthermore, he pledged to stand with MNA members in their 2025 Contract Campaign, solidifying his commitment to the rights and well-being of nurses.
Nurses Care, Nurses Vote
MNA endorsements follow screening sessions where nurses pressed the candidates for their commitment to key issues for nurses and patients. Following screening sessions with the candidates, recommendations for endorsement were approved by the MNA Political Committee and Board of Directors, both comprised of elected nurse members.
MNA nurses will encourage fellow nurses and the public to elect endorsed candidates in 2025 through phone- and text-banking, door-knocking, digital advertisements and more.
