(St. Paul) –   January 16, 2019 –  The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Nurses Association has endorsed Stu Lourey for the vacant Minnesota Senate seat of District 11 to represent Carlton, Pine, St. Louis, and Kanabec counties.  Nurse leaders made the decision after he submitted to a screening and questionnaire that detailed his commitment to expanding access to healthcare for more Minnesotans.

“We’re proud to work for Stu Lourey,” said MNA President Mary C. Turner, an ICU nurse at North Memorial Health.  “Stu has already proven his dedication to Greater Minnesotans and public service in his work in the northern Minnesota offices of senators Al Franken and Tina Smith.”Nurses are supportive of Stu Lourey’s efforts to make healthcare affordable and easier to get, especially for those in Greater Minnesota where residents have fewer insurance options and farther to go to obtain care.

“We often forget that our farmers and agricultural industry folks are also small business owners,” Turner said.  “Minnesotans deserve access to quality care, wherever they live and work, and, as nurses, we owe it to patients to support candidates and efforts that improve healthcare for all.  Stu Lourey aligns with our nurse values of caring for all patients and improving the lives of everyone in our community.”

To win the seat, Stu Lourey faces a primary on January 22 and a special election on February 5, 2019.
