MNA RN Nellie Munn Advocates for Unemployment Insurance Extension (Page 118)

On Thursday, December 8, MNA Nurse Nellie Munn spoke at an event at Congressman Erik Paulsen’s office, asking him to support an extension of Unemployment Insurance.

Without Congressional action, unemployment benefits will run out for 28,000 Minnesotans and a total of 2 million Americans on December 31. Cutting the lifeline of Unemployment Insurance will throw families into crisis, affecting their health as much as their checkbook.

We’re encouraged that Congressman Paulsen’s staff said he’d vote to extend UI. If you are a constituent in his district (most of suburban Hennepin County), please call his office and make sure he keeps to his word! Reach Rep. Paulsen at 952-405-8510.

ST. PAUL (December 1, 2011) – Responding to today’s state budget forecast, the Minnesota Nurses Association issued the following statement:

“Plenty of GOP leaders are putting a positive spin on today’s news of a budget surplus. However, we’d like to point out a few of the items you aren’t likely to hear them talking about:

  • You won’t hear GOP leadership talking about the billion-dollar cost of using tobacco bonds to balance the budget, which they insisted upon.
