New MNA Web site goes live April 7!
The brand-new, completely redesigned MNA Web site will be going LIVE this Wednesday, April 7, 2010! We hope you enjoy the new look and feel of the MNA site and that it provides you the information you need in a fast, friendly and easy-to-follow manner.
Two important changes to the new site include:
- Print, Save as PDF and Share buttons on every page of the MNA Web site.
- Moving several “Members-only” pages of content over to the new myMNA Member Portal, which will provide a customized, safe and secure environment for the MNA Member pages you use most.

New, National RN Stats – Just released!
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) just released its initial findings from its 2008 National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses.
You can view the entire report online, but below are some of the more interesting tidbits we found. (Note: This report is published every four years, so it mostly compares 2004 to 2008.)
RN Population
- U.S. RN population grew from 2.9 – 3.1 million (increase of 5.3%)
- 84.8 percent (2.6 million) of RNs are employed in nursing (highest since 1977)
Age
- 63.2 percent employed full time in nursing.

Minnesota Nurses Day on the Hill 2010 Recap
As MNA President Linda Hamilton said so eloquently (and accurately) in the video above, “Nurses are in the House!” More than 900 RNs and nursing students gathered at the State Capitol yesterday, and our voices were heard loud and clear by dozens of Minnesota legislators and leaders, including Attorney General Lori Swanson and others. Swanson was among those who spoke at a standing-room-only noontime rally in the Capitol Rotunda, and throughout the day hundreds of nurses met with their legislators and representatives to advocate for patient safety, restoring the General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) program and other important issues. Special tanks to all of you who showed up and spoke up on behalf of RNs and patients!
