June 2 Bargaining – Information Request filed by MNA

MNA Information Request June 2, 2010

MNA requests that the following information is provide for the purposes of bargaining, and that it is provided not later than 8:00 A.M. on June 4, 2010.

  1. Please provide a unit by unit comparison of current staffing ratios and those as last proposed by MNA.
  2. Please specifically identify the factors and data that were used by the hospitals to calculate the cost of the MNA proposal at 250 million dollars.  Indicate the current costs that are included in the hospital’s calculations
  3. What is the average cost of the following adverse events?
    1. Patient falls
    2. Hospital acquired infection, including at least;
      1. i.     Bloodstream infections
      2. ii.     MRSA
      3. iii.     VRE
      4. iv.     Pneumonia
  4. DVT
  5. Anti-coagulation error
  6. Pulmonary embolism
  7. Nosocomial decubitus ulcer
  8. Provide grids/matrices’ for all similar units across each hospital system. IE: Medical Surgical ANW -Medical surgical Mercy
  9. List each unit in each hospital where the grid, matrix or acuity tool allows for the adjustment of staffing levels or a nurse’s assignment based upon acuity, intensity level of the patients.
  10. List each unit in each hospital where the grid, matrix or acuity tool allows for the adjustment of staffing levels or a nurse’s assignment based upon the skill level of the RNs caring for the patients.
  11. List each unit in each hospital where charge nurses are never required to be assigned patients
  12. List hospital by hospital and unit by unit the number of instances in which the staffing grid, matrix or grasp acuity tool was not met.
  13. List any unit in any hospital in which the staffing tool factors in meal breaks for RNs and specifically indicate how that happens.
  14. List each bonus paid to each manager, director, vice president or president for 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 to date.
