(St. Paul) – January 28, 2020 – The No Cuts on Quality Care coalition of concerned community members, organization leaders, nurses, doctors and patients is holding a community forum Tuesday night to discuss the potential cuts and closures at Bethesda and St. Joseph’s hospitals. M Health Fairview CEO James Hereford has been invited to attend but has not responded.

These cuts will have ripple effects at all metro Twin Cities hospitals.

(St. Paul) – January 22, 2020 – A coalition called “No Cuts on Quality Care” of nurses, doctors, faith leaders, and patient groups are inviting Fairview Health CEO James Hereford to a community forum to discuss cuts to Bethesda and St. Joseph’s hospitals. Advocates plan to deliver the invitation to Hereford at a forum on the future of healthcare Thursday morning at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown St. Paul.

“The coalition wants to ensure you have a chance to hear from real community members and patients about the impact that cuts and closures will have on us all,” the invitation reads.

(Mankato) – December 4, 2019 – Mankato members of the Minnesota Nurses Association will hold an informational picket around the Mayo Mankato hospital on December 5, 2019 to take their contract issues straight to their employers. Nurses are demanding hospital management come to the bargaining table with the entire negotiating team of nurses to discuss a new contract. Mayo, at this point, has refused to bargain with all the nurses.

Nurses and Mayo Clinic Health Services, which runs the Mankato hospital, have been bargaining since September over a new contract, but nurses have felt their voices have not been heard on critical issues, including: workplace safety, staffing, wages, and benefits.

(Mankato, MN) – November 25, 2019 – Members of the Minnesota Nurses Association will take to the streets on Thursday, December 5, 2019 to tell Mayo Clinic Health systems they want hospital management to bargain with nurses in the same room. Nurses have been in negotiations with Mayo on a new three-year contract since September, but management has refused to negotiate with nurse members in the room.

“We’ve repeatedly asked Mayo to negotiate so our nurses can be part of the process,” said Jammie Meyer, a Mankato Registered Nurse and part of the negotiating team.

(Duluth, MN) – September 25, 2019 – St. Luke’s nurses have overwhelmingly voted to ratify the tentative agreement reached between the hospital and the Minnesota Nurses Association. The vote sets in place a new three-year contract for St. Luke’s nurses, which will be considered effective as of July 1, 2019.

“Nurses stood up and fought for solutions to the staffing crisis,” said Pete Boyechko, a St. Luke’s nurse and negotiations team member. “We’re proud that the hospital will have to address short staffing situations, and we hope more nurses will be hired so we can safely care for our patients.”

Nurses and the hospital agreed to add contract terms that provide bonuses for nurses called in when the number of patients or the severity of the patients’ conditions are greater than can be safely handled by the nurses on staff.

(St. Paul) – June 15, 2019 – Nurses represented by the Minnesota Nurses Association reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract with  Children’s Hospitals of Minnesota and withdrew the threat of a nurses’ strike at the hospitals.

The nurses’ and the hospital’s negotiations teams met over a 21-hour session and cooperated to jointly address issues, including the cost of health insurance for MNA nurses.

“Nurses are happy that Children’s recognized that the cost of insurance is a concern that affects the hospital’s competitiveness of attracting and retaining nurses,” said Michelle Cotterell, a sedation nurse at Children’s Minneapolis campus.

(St. Paul) – June 13, 2019 – Nurses represented by the Minnesota Nurses Association voted overwhelmingly to reject the latest offer by Children’s Hospitals of Minnesota and authorize the negotiating team to call a strike.

A hospital strike must be authorized by a supermajority of the membership there, and the decision of when a strike would begin and how long it would last will be decided by the elected nurse members of the negotiating committee.

(Anoka) – May 29, 2019 – Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center (AMRTC) staff are at risk every day they walk through the doors because the hospital does not have needed security to prevent violence by patients and others. MNA, AFSCME, and MAPE members are picketing outside the hospital this afternoon to shine a spotlight on safety concerns after a nurse was violently attacked recently.

“That attack shows just how dangerous the working conditions are at AMRTC,” Carrie Mortrud, RN, said.
