August 20, 2020 (St. Paul) – The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Nurses Association has approved a second round of endorsements for state legislative candidates, based on candidate questionnaires and recommendations by nurse members on various screening committees.
“Nurses continue to feel the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic as they balance providing excellent patient care while working in inadequate conditions without the proper PPE,” said MNA President Mary C. Turner. “Now more than ever, we need to get behind candidates who have the seal of approval of nurses. These candidates have shown their commitment and willingness to work alongside nurses as we advocate for policy that will strengthen patient care and protect nurses on the job.”
MNA asked candidates to identify their positions on key issues important to bedside nurses, includin g appropriate staffing levels in hospitals, adequate PPE supplies, and reforming our current healthcare system. Candidate interviews by MNA member screening committees submitted recommendations that were approved by the nurse-elected MNA Board of Directors.
Nurses continue to screen candidates and move them through their screening and endorsement process. MNA will be announcing more endorsements in state legislative races in the near future.
