(McLeod County, MN) – January 8, 2026 – McLeod County Public Health Nurses have voted to ratify their contract, which marks a significant step forward in strengthening equitable public health services for a community that has long faced increased demands. This agreement includes Public Health Nurses, Registered Nurses, Public Health Educators, and Public Health Social Workers who provide essential services to McLeod County residents. These professionals provide disease investigation and contract tracing for illnesses such as tuberculosis; administration of Medicaid waiver programs that help children and adults with disabilities receive care at home; services for vulnerable adults as well as health and social work services within the county jail.
“This ratification is an important step toward recognizing the people behind the essential work carried out by public health,” said Jennifer Smith, PHN. “When public health workers have a voice, they are better equipped to provide the services that lead to a healthier community.”
Public health workers serve residents across the county—from young families to seniors—often working directly with people during difficult life and medical moments. Their jobs require local knowledge, consistency, and trust built over time. Maintaining a stable workforce helps ensure residents can continue to access timely care, support services and public health protections close to home.
