Statement on 2026 Minnesota Governor’s Race

(St. Paul, MN) – January 5, 2026 – As Minnesota’s gubernatorial race moves forward, nurses recognize Governor Tim Walz’s support for the labor movement and Minnesota’s long-held tradition of standing with working people. We thank him for his work advancing worker-friendly legislation, including Minnesota’s Paid Family and Medical Leave and Earned Sick and Safe Time.

Nurses remain focused on patient safety and the future of nursing in Minnesota. We look forward to a robust and substantive discussion with candidates about improving patient outcomes and strengthening the nursing profession through policies that prioritize safe staffing ratios and ensure healthcare corporations put patients before profits.

These conversations are critical to addressing the ongoing imbalance of power between frontline healthcare workers and large corporate healthcare systems, and to ensuring nurses have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect patient care. Minnesota’s nurses are committed to engaging constructively and to working with leaders who value the role of bedside caregivers in delivering safe, high-quality care across our state.
