It’s Coming: 2026 MNA Day on the Hill

By Marcia Swanson, RN, GAC Commissioner

On Tuesday, March 3, we will gather for MNA’s annual Day on the Hill. This is a time for nurses, to get to know other nurses throughout the state and to bring our priorities for nursing, labor, and patient care to our elected officials.

We will also have nursing students joining us again for Student Day on the Hill; 2025 was the first combined Day on the Hill in many years where we get to work together with the student nurses. We were able to build relationships, give advice, and learn what their needs are. Many of the students were very active and showed interest.

On Monday night, we have time to meet other nurses and discuss issues, which most of us share. On Tuesday morning, our leaders and staff will go over the day when we gather to learn the ins and outs of the day and provide you with the training you need to meet with your elected officials.

As we meet with elected officials, we will share our legislative priorities. Staffing is always an issue. This year we must also defend our past wins like Earned Sick and Safe Time and Paid Family & Medical Leave. And the Nurse Licensure Compact is something we need to continue to oppose to protect nurse practice in Minnesota.

Minnesota Nurses hold high standards, and this is very important to our patients. This is yet another opportunity for us to advocate for our practice to provide the best patient care.

Day on the Hill is a great time, and if you haven’t signed up, jump on board and take a ride to the Capitol with us. The deadline to register is Tuesday, February 24. Click here to learn more and to register.

Every nurse should take advantage of this experience!
