MNA members have the opportunity to participate in MNA’s many Commissions and Committees. Learn more what each Committee or Commission does and how to get involved.
All other positions are appointed by the MNA Board of Directors.

10-12 meetings/year, 2-4 hrs each
Includes at least two members from each of the eight MN Congressional Districts and three members at- large. If less than two Commissioners are elected to any congressional district, openings will be treated as at-large positions until the following election.
FUNCTIONS:
4-5 meetings/year, 1-2 hrs each
Consists of five to nine members, elected by the general membership. Cannot serve in any other MNA office except MNA Delegate, MN AFL-CIO Delegate, and National Nurses United Delegate.
FUNCTIONS:
Meets at least quarterly, 1-2 hrs each
Consists of seven retiree selected by members of the Council of Active Retired Nurses.
FUNCTIONS:
Oversee activities of the Council of Active Retired Nurses.
10-11 meetings/year, approx 3 hrs each
Consists of eight collective bargaining unit members and four members at-large. At-large seats shall first be filled by non-collective bargaining unit members.
FUNCTIONS:
Serve as a resource on ethical, health and safety issues related to the profession of nursing practice.
Meets as needed.
Consists of five to seven members with no less than two members from outside the metro area (Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey & Washington) facilities and no more than one member from any one facility.
FUNCTIONS:
4 meetings/year, 2 hrs or as needed
Consists of: MNA 2nd Vice President (Chair), MNA Treasurer, and one member from each Commission.
FUNCTIONS:
Monthly meetings, 1 1⁄2-2 hrs each
Consists of 11 collective bargaining unit members and 4 members at large. At-large seats shall first be filled by non-collective bargaining unit members. In the event non-collective bargaining unit members do not fill all at- large seats, the remaining seats shall be made available to collective bargaining unit members. In addition to meetings of committee members, the committee will have monthly general membership meetings open to all MNA members in order to foster a culture of anti-racism within the union.
FUNCTIONS:
Monthly meetings, 1 ½ – 2 hrs each
Consists of 19 members with two members from each of the MN Congressional Districts and three members at-large. If there are less than two committee members appointed from a Congressional District, and if there are no applicants from the Congressional District, the opening shall be treated as an at-large position.

Up to 4 meetings/year, 2-3 hrs each
Consists of a commissioner or their designee, three members at-large, at least one of whom was a previous award recipient.

The Committee shall be divided into three geographic regions (Metro-MN Congressional Districts 3, 4, & 5; Southern-MN Congressional Districts 1 & 2; and Greater-MN Congressional Districts 6, 7, & 8) with up to seven members representing each region.

4 meetings/year, 2 hrs each
Consists of the 2nd Vice President (Chair) and a member from the Board of Directors, each Commission, the Collective Bargaining Committee, and CARn.
FUNCTIONS:
8-10/year, 1-2 hrs each
Consists of three Board members.
FUNCTIONS:
Determine MNA’s presence and participation at the State Fair and other organization-wide events.
Encourage members to become more involved in community events and increase public awareness of MNA.
6 meetings/year, 4 hrs each. Meetings are the morning of the 2nd Friday of each even-numbered month.
Consists of two regular members and two alternate members elected by the metro stewards.
FUNCTIONS:
4 meetings/year, 2 hrs each (one 5-hr scholarship review meeting)
Minimum of seven MNA members, including one MNA Board member, and a minimum of two members with expertise in research.

4-6 meetings/year; approx 1 hr each
Consists of a minimum of five MNA Board members, includ- ing the Treasurer (Chair).
FUNCTIONS:
Up to 4 meetings/year, Up to 4 hrs per session
Consists of three to five Board members. Past experience on a bargaining committee and grievance handling (including discipline grievances) is helpful. Training will be provided.
FUNCTIONS:
One meeting/quarter, 2 hrs each
Consists of MNA Treasurer, one other Finance Committee member and two MNASO members. The Finance Director attends and is the liaison for the investment advisers.
FUNCTIONS:
Minimum of one meeting/year, 2-4 hrs each
Consists of the Executive Committee plus two Directors appointed by the Board.
FUNCTIONS:
8-10/year, 1-2 hrs each
The entire MNA Board currently serves as the Political Committee; the 2nd Vice President serves as Chair.
FUNCTIONS:
Encourage nurseas to take an active and effective part in political affairs pertaining to MNA’s goals/priorities.
Endorse candidates for state offices, subject to approval of the MNA Board.
Endorse MNA members for local offices, subject to approval of the MNA Board.
The following committees are comprised solely of Board members appointed by the MNA Board.
