Meeting will highlight ways to build community partnerships to fight against corporate healthcare and advocate for a safe and fair healthcare system for all
(Duluth) – March 6, 2023 – At 6:00 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association will join medical students from the University of Minnesota Duluth and community members for a forum on the future of our healthcare system in Duluth and across Minnesota.
The event, hosted by MNA and the medical student group White Coats for Black Lives, will include a review of nurses’ recent fight for fair contracts to protect nurses and patients in our hospitals. Nurses, medical students, and community members will also highlight the negative effects of the corporatization of our healthcare system, and how healthcare professionals, patients and the community can work together to advocate for a safe, fair healthcare system for all.
At the forum, nurses will also highlight their efforts at the Minnesota Legislature this year to solve the crisis of short-staffing, retention, and patient care in Minnesota hospitals with the Keeping Nurses at the Bedside Act. This bill would establish committees at Minnesota hospitals to set safe staffing levels, including a limit on the number of patients that any one nurse should safely care for to ensure patients receive the care they expect and deserve.
