Nurse endorsements recognize current lawmakers and electoral candidates working to solve the crisis of understaffing and retention, hold corporate healthcare executives accountable and put patients before profits in our hospitals

(St. Paul) – July 29, 2024 – Nurses of the Minnesota Nurses Association today announced the endorsement of their next round of 29 endorsements for the Minnesota House. These candidates are recognized for their various levels of leadership and partnership with nurses to make progress on issues important to nurses and patients. To be endorsed by nurses, candidates must demonstrate commitment to MNA priorities, including solving the crisis of nurse retention and patient care, combatting increased corporatization and consolidation in healthcare, and supporting the rights of all workers seeking a collective voice for dignity and respect in the workplace.

Nurses Care, Nurses Vote
MNA endorsements follow screening sessions where nurses pressed the candidates for their commitment to key issues for nurses and patients. Following screening sessions with the candidates, recommendations for endorsement were approved by the MNA Political Committee and Board of Directors, both comprised of elected nurse members. 

MNA nurses will encourage fellow nurses and the public to elect endorsed candidates in 2024 through phone- and text-banking, door-knocking, digital advertisements and more. 

MNA will continue screening candidates over the next few months with additional announcements to come. More information on the MNA endorsement process and on endorsed candidates can be found at nursescarenursesvote.com.

(Duluth) – July 23, 2024 – Today, July 23, 2024, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at Essentia’s East Market will hold a press conference to announce the results of their election vote to be represented by the Minnesota Nurses Association. The APPs filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board on November 27. The election was delayed for months as Essentia challenged the composition of the proposed bargaining unit through the legal process laid out by the NLRB.

Nurses join nearly 250 Essentia workers who have voted to form a union with MNA so far in 2024 

(Duluth) – July 11, 2024 – Today Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic 3rd Street and Patient Flow hospital nurses announced that they voted overwhelmingly to form unions represented by the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) this week to gain a collective voice in their workplaces to improve working conditions and how care is provided to their patients.

“We are excited to be part of a union and now have a say in our nursing role,” said Keri Sterbenz, RN in Patient Flow at Essentia Health-Duluth Hospital.

(St. Paul) – July 3, 2024 – Nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) are releasing a statement about their concerns regarding a new patient admissions plan that Allina’s Abbott Northwestern Hospital plans to begin on July 11, 2024. The hospital announced they will implement a “15 Minutes to Comfort Plan” that unilaterally seizes the authority of charge nurses to determine the number of patients a unit can safely care for and allows management to force patients onto unprepared units.

Hospital has the highest adverse health events in Minnesota, recently fined for workplace violence prevention violation 

(St. Paul) – June 22, 2024 – Nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) are fighting for safer staffing at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) as the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reports the hospital had the highest number of adverse health events in the state last year. The hospital was also recently fined by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry’s Occupational Safety and Health Division (MNOSHD) for failing to provide an effective workplace violence program to protect employees.
