Statement from the Minnesota Nurses Association on proposed acquisition of Allina Health by Sutter Health

The Minnesota Nurses Association is deeply concerned by this afternoon’s announcement that Sutter Health intends to acquire Allina Health, placing one of Minnesota’s largest health systems under the control of an out-of-state corporate entity. This announcement reflects a growing and troubling trend that impacts patients, healthcare workers, and communities.

Corporate mergers and healthcare monopolies like this are driven by power and financial priorities rather than patient care and healthcare expertise.

The proposed acquisition raises serious concerns about how this could impact union members’ contracts and benefits as well as patient care

We call on hospital leadership to work in good faith with the Minnesota Attorney General’s office and to comply with 2023 legislation regulating healthcare mergers and acquisitions. This will ensure full transparency throughout this process and accountability to workers and the public.
