MNA Convention/House of Delegates – What’s It All About?
MNA Delegates attend MNA’s annual Convention to vote on Bylaws Amendments, Resolutions, and Main Motions regarding MNA’s organizational goals and priorities. Convention is also stocked full of wonderful education, networking, entertainment, and more!
Delegates must attend the following:
Delegate Briefing (prior to Convention)
Share general tips, review the Convention schedule, Delegate roles, discuss general House of Delegate procedures, familiarize Delegates with Robert’s Rules of Order, and answer questions regarding proposed action items.
Forums (at Convention)
- Legislative Forum: Review MNA’s Legislative Platform to be voted on during the HOD business sessions.
- Bylaws, Resolutions, & Main Motions Forum: Allows Delegates the opportunity to review all proposed action items (Bylaws Amendments, Resolutions & Main Motions) to get the information you need to vote on the issues during the HOD business sessions. Delegates and authors of the proposed action items are required to attend.
House of Delegates
Delegates must attend all business sessions of the House of Delegates where they debate and vote on all properly submitted Bylaws Amendments, Resolutions, and Main Motions.
Speakers
Over the years, MNA has invited several speakers, including other union officials, local and state legislators, and keynote speakers who are there to educate or entertain—or both!
Entertainment
Delegates can also enjoy various entertainment in the evenings. Depending on the location and schedule, we’ve offered live music, karaoke, comedians, a “movie night”, and a boat cruise (Lake Superior). There is also an Honors & Awards dinner on Sunday night to celebrate MNA’s diverse award and scholarship recipients.
Silent Auction
All proceeds go to the MNA Disaster Relief Fund. Money raised at the silent auction will help support MNA members affected by natural disasters. Members and bargaining units are welcome to donate items to the Silent Auction, such as themed baskets, handmade items, artwork, nursing-related items, books, gift certificates, jewelry, and more.
