MNA Office

In 2018, we have a critical decision in front of us in the race for the next Governor of the state of Minnesota. Nurses have the opportunity to elect a Governor who stands with us in our fight for safer staffing, workplace safety, healthcare for all, and fights back against the growing threat of anti-union and Nurse Compact laws. The campaign for our next Governor is our chance to fight for the kind of Minnesota we want: a state that supports nursing and union values, healthcare for all, racial equity, and a healthy environment.

Your first step is to help the MNA Board of Directors endorse a candidate for governor who will represent nurse values. MNA will be conducting screenings with the gubernatorial candidates from all parties who fill out our questionnaire and accept MNA’s invitation for an interview on:

WHEN: Saturday, September 9, 2017
TIME: 8:30am – 4:00pm
WHERE: Minnesota Nurses Association
345 Randolph Ave., Ste. 200
St. Paul, MN 55102

Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Additionally, all members who attend the screening event will be reimbursed for their mileage, and members who live more than 50 miles from the MNA office will also qualify for a one-night, standard room hotel reimbursement. MNA has negotiated a 15% off their best rate on a standard room at the following hotels:

In order to participate in the screening, members must register in advance by Friday, September 1 through either the Member Center or by emailing Chris McCall, MNA Administrative Assistant, at

Members in attendance will be given information on each candidate’s experience, history, and questionnaire results. Members will rate each candidate on a provided scorecard and take notes on each candidate’s position. At the end of the day, members will have an opportunity to fill out a secret straw poll ballot and the results of the ballot will be announced. Those results, along with your scorecard and notes, will be given to the MNA Board of Director’s Political Committee on September 20, 2017 for review and final decision. All members in participation at the screening are encouraged to attend that September 20 Board of Director’s meeting to listen to the conversation and provide any feedback from the screenings.

There is much work to be done and we all can play our part. Now we have a real opportunity to elect a governor who will help advance MNA issues such as staffing, healthcare reform, and workplace violence prevention, while fighting back harmful legislation such as a Nurse Compact and Right-to-Work. We need your participation to make a decision that represents all of MNA.
