8:15 to 8:30 am - REGISTRATION AND LIGHT BREAKFAST

8:30 to 10:30 am – REFUSING UNSAFE ASSIGNMENTS
Learn to recognize situations that risk patients’ lives and nurses' licenses. Hone the skills necessary to refuse unsafe assignments in order to protect your patients and your practice. (2.4 contact hours)

10:30 to 10:45 am - BREAK

10:45 am to 12:45 pm – HIPAA
Learn how the Privacy Rules concerning HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) should be applied in the workplace. Learn to recognize and avoid HIPAA violations, and also to advocate for the correct application of employer policies. (2.4 contact hours)

12:45 to 1:15 pm – Lunch provided

1:15 to 3:15 pm – THE ROLE OF THE CHARGE NURSE
Examine ways in which the charge nurse should advocate for patient safety as well as the professional practice of staff nurses. This class is designed to facilitate conversation between the bedside nurse and the charge nurse. (2.4 contact hours)

3:15 to 3:30 pm - CONCLUSIONS AND EVALUATIONS

Nursing Contact Hours
These programs for 2.4 contact hours each have been designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Nursing continuing education requirements. However, the nurse is responsible for determining whether this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education.
